Liz Phair, "Exile in Guyville" reissue

From the eMusic feature on the reissue:
"All these creepy, strange memories â€” "I don't know, why was I there? What happened here?" Searching, searching, searching for a happy, healthy security that you don't know how to create. My mom said she cried when she first heard Exile in Guyville, and I remember thinking, "that's just weird," but now I listen to it and I can't get through it. I just start crying for that poor girl. I think when you're young, you don't realize that there's another way to be. Everybody's sad. They're drinking to cover it and they're fucking to cover it, but everybody's sad when they're young."

"Exile in Guyville" is 15 years old! Wow. So it came out when *I* was 15! Phair was 26 years old when the album was released.

connection problems and a few new albums added

The station was down for several hours Sunday. I just figured out why in the last half hour. One of my cats must have sat on the modem and switched something off. Some of the lights on the modem were still on though, so I thought my connection was down. I guess they like sitting on monitors, keyboards and other electronic equipment because they're nice and warm. Damn cats. Anyway, everything is back up now and during the downtime I added Spoon's "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" and Nick Lowe's "Jesus of Cool" (aka "Pure Pop For Now People").

good news!

This is a message from Brandon at LoudCity:
"Thanks to all the pressure you and your listeners put on Congress, they finally took action yesterday and leaned on SoundExchange. Rep Edward Markey (D-MA) (Energy & Commerce Sub-com) called for a round table discussion between the parties thus forcing some sanity into the situation.

"SoundExchange has stated before Congress that they will not enforce the CRB rates come July 15 and it's to be business as usual for Webcasters until a fresh round of negotiations establishes new rates. So for LoudCity this means we pay the old rates until we hash out what is expected to be realistic rates. Furthermore it looks like the CRB (Copyright Royalty Board) is cut out from this round of negotiations and Congress will be checking in from time to time to make sure things things stay fair and level.

"All of this happened because you persevered with phone calls to Congress. So Congrats, you've made a mark in history! You're all going to be broadcasting without any needless stress.

"We still need to shoot for the IREA (Internet Radio Equality Act) passed, because it will have a positive impact on future CRB rate settings and the IREA is still fresh on the minds on Congress. In fact we got a handful of new supporters yesterday, so we're up to 140 supporters between the House and Senate which is incredible for just a few months of lobbying. So please keep up the phone calls. They matter."

The Arcade Fire Stole My Basketball!

I was at their Berkeley show on June 2nd. Win Butler talked a little bit on stage about almost getting arrested at a Cal Berkeley gym earlier that day. One of the guys he argued with claims that Win stole his basketball. The guy started a blog about it. Kinda pathetic but funny.
