The Rock is Cooking
Happy news indeed. The boys have
handcrafted a brand new batch of badass rock songs and they're
going into the studio to polish them up and put them on wax.
Or tape. Or digitron chips. They're recording the new album
with Dave Fridmann in his secret headquarters somewhere in
upstate New York. Even if you haven't heard of Mr. Fridmann,
you've probably heard his work. He's produced or recorded a
ton of stuff, including two decade's worth of Flaming Lips
albums, MGMT's debut, and excellent music from artists like
Cafe Tacuba, Low, Sleater-Kinney, Sparklehorse, Mercury Rev
and loads of others.

Andy Ross Has A Solo Record
On November 11th, you can have it too. Mr. Ross
records under the name Secret Dakota Ring, producing songs which, as his bio tells us,
hang out somewhere on the "beautifully realized stylistic
extremes of pop." The album is called
Cantarell and the first single is "The Fade To
Black." It's a doozy. Listen to it on his MySpace, read his blog about it on secretdakotaring.com,
and pre-order the whole thing from Insound.com
and seriousbusinessrecords.com.

Damian In Ang Lee's New Movie
Damian has been cast as a long-haired
folk singer in the upcoming Ang Lee movie Taking Woodstock. This may not be the
role Damian was born to play (that's actually a tough cop with
a checkered past, a heart of gold, and a talking donkey) but
it's a pretty good start.

OK Go Rocks The Human Race
Well, the part of it that lives in Los Angeles, anyway. The boys will play a few songs at a kick-off event for the Nike+ Human Race this Wednesday, July 23, outside the Montalbán Theatre in Hollywood at Vine and Selma.
The event starts at 8pm, though the boys will probably not go on exactly then. Rumors that everyone in attendance will be asked to run in place during the show are unconfirmed, as is the much whispered about post-event burning of delicious glazed donuts. That the boys will be there and bringing the rock, however, is absolutely certain, so come on out.

Damian featured in Ben Karlin's new book
In the spirit of the wintery love day, Damian has contributed an
embarrassingly revealing essay to the book "Things I've Learned From Women
Who Dumped Me," edited by Ben Karlin, one of the co-creators of the
Colbert Report and an all around clever guy. Lots of sharp wits are
involved (Mr. Colbert, Dan Savage, Andy Richter, David Wain, etc.), and
(spoiler alert) the basic theme is that none of them actually learned
anything from their romantic failures.
We've added the book to our online store, and because we can't
possibly compete with Amazon, Damian has signed every copy we're selling,
making it well worth the extra pittance we have to charge for not being a
global megacorporation.
Also, there's an audio version of the book, in which Damian reads his piece.
None of us has heard it yet, but we assume it must be even more embarrassing
to hear it in his own voice. You can order it here.

You're Not Alone at iTunes Today
OK Go spent the 2nd anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans recording an insanely swaggering benefit EP with trombone soul monsters Bonerama. It's called You´re Not Alone and it hit iTunes worldwide today. (drop them an email if it's not in your country's store.) Awesomely, iTunes agreed to donate their share of the sales, so every last penny of the proceeds will go towards helping rebuild the New Orleans music community, which was devastated by Katrina. Money goes to Sweet Home New Orleans and to building a new house for New Orleans legend Al "Carnival Time" Johnson, who lost everything in the storm and post-storm floods, and who sings on the EP's final track.
The music is actually worth your money (not just according to us), all of which will go to talented people in very real need. Do us, them, and yourselves a favor: Buy a copy right now.
The tracklist:
Rock ‘N’ Roll Suicide (the Bowie tune)
A Million Ways
Oh Lately It’s So Quiet
It’s a Disaster
I Shall Be Released (the Dylan Tune, with "Carnival Time" Johnson on vocals)
To support the release, the boys played two sold-out release shows with Bonerama, one at the legendary New Orleans club Tipitina’s, and another at the 9:30 club in DC. the DC show brought out both politicos and musicians: Russ Feingold and Fugazi’s Brendan Canty were both there, along with Bill Clinton’s Press Secratary Joe Lockhart, who personally raised money from friends he brought to the show. He raised a ton. You only have to raise $3.49.

Go Vote, Kids
You really don’t need to hear this from Camp OK Go, but here it is anyway. Vote! Vote in your primaries. They´re probably today if they haven’t already happened. Do not wait. Our electoral system isn’t changing anytime soon, and until it does, we’ve got to deal with what we have: a bunch of politicians who often forget the interests of the world's loveliest people: blog-reading rock fans. And we're sick of you disenfranchising yourselves by going in to work or school or Scrabulous comas instead of voting booths and caucus cabinets. Don’t let bad people pick our leaders. They’ll just pick bad ones. Have your say.
