Prior to watching the Maple Leafs during their nine-game exhibition schedule, I had been slightly wavering about where they could fit among the NHL’s bottom- feeders this season. But, there is no longer any question.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed defenceman Luke Schenn to a three-year entry-level contract Tuesday. Forward Boyd Devereaux and defenceman Staffan Kronwall were placed on waivers.

Former Montreal Expos broadcasters Jacques Doucet and Dave van Horne and late Blue Jays play-by-play man Tom Cheek were selected as finalists Monday for the Ford C. Frick Award. The award is given annually by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum for excellence in baseball broadcasting.
